What is S3 Browser:
S3 browser is a desktop based application used to edit upload files directly to Amazon S3 and cloudfront.
Why we use S3 Browser:
We use S3 browser for quick and bulk uploading files which are sometimes restricted from direct browser.
Prerequisits:
S3 browser app , Amazon Access and secret key to import your buckets and files.
Process:
- First you need to have S3 browser installed to your desktop. You can download it from here http://screencast.com/t/87sSnjjg26
- Install it onto your desktop and run it.
- If you are running this app for the first time then this will ask you to add account if not goto Accounts->Add new Account http://screencast.com/t/oOnUSoMY9x
- Goto Accounts->Add new Account
- This will open up a box where you have to insert your credentials. Give appropriate account name.
- Copy and paste your access key here. Click here to get your api key.
Select create new access key
and copy newly created api key and secret key.
- Fill your api key and secret keys respectively.
- Finally hit ‘Add Account’.
4) If you have entered correct credentials then you account should pull all present list of buckets from your account.
5) You can start adding your files to either present buckets or can also create new bucket.
6) You can create any number of directories.
7) To upload files into your desired location first locate your directory and then find ‘Upload’ button using this you can choose 10 items at a time to upload your file.
8) While uploading your file you have to provide proper permissions to that file from dropdown so that it will be available for all users. To do this refer below screenshot.
9) So as to application type as zip for non zip files such as xml file , backup option (.txt) ,
a. In step 3, set the properties for your file. In metadata, select Header as Content-Type from dropdown.
b. Select value as application/zip.
c. Click on save.
d. Click on next.
10) To test your link copy file link and try to open this on new window it should download your file directly.
What can go wrong:
If you forget to make your file as public then it won’t be accessible to all users so always try to open your file link in private widow for ensuring its public behaviour.
